Amazon Book Description
Married less than a week, Delicious (Delly) Williams, watches her new husband die, leaving her to raise his five children under the age of thirteen. He also left her a deed to property in Oregon. His dying wish; for Delly to get the deed and the children to his brother in order for them to be protected. Zeke Williams wants to marry Delly in order to keep her safe. Another marriage is the last thing Delly wants. Can these two come together and forge a love and a new life in an untamed land?
I was completely captivated by Cynthia Hickey’s book, A Love for Delicious. The book follows Delly’s journey to Oregon, and from the moment Delly was knocked into the horse trough until the moment her story came to a close, I was enthralled.
Orphaned and widowed, Delly values her independence and is excited by the new life that awaits her in Oregon. She has a plan, five children she loves, and the determination to see them through. Being a wagon master, Zeke knows all about the dangers that lay await them on the Oregon trail, and the last thing he wants is to be responsible for a single woman and five kids. And they are his responsibility, even if Delly has her own opinions about that.
One of my favorite aspects of this book was that Delly and Zeke didn’t play games. They didn’t have silly spats or the common misunderstandings that authors so frequently use to create the ups and downs in a story. Delly and Zeke read like real people with real feelings. Every interaction was authentic and kept me reading.
Hickey did an amazing job of crafting a realistic story that was fun to read and caused me to stay up way too late. I would highly recommend this book and will be keeping an eye out for other books by this author.
