Unwrap Your Gift, by Betty Predmore
There is something so special about receiving a gift that was chosen and thought out just for you. The joy that comes with knowing that this particular gift is perfect for you, created just for you. It is much the same with our spiritual gifts. Once we accept the Lord into our heart and allow that beautiful Holy Spirit to dwell within us, we receive our spiritual gifts. So what do we do? Do we admire the package or do we unwrap the gift? And once we unwrap the gift, are we going to use it?
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10). Are you walking in your gift? Have you torn off the beautiful bow and paper, and gotten to what is inside? Like any other gift we receive, if we don’t use it, it has no purpose. We must be willing to open our gift and use it as a blessing and an encouragement to others. The whole purpose of God giving us a spiritual gift is to use it for His glory and to impact His kingdom.
If you haven’t unwrapped your gift…why not? What is holding you back? Perhaps you have feelings of inadequacy, thinking you aren’t capable of serving God in such a way. Maybe your self-confidence is at an all-time low and you don’t feel worthy for the cause. Maybe the devil has lied to you and told you that you can never achieve anything for the kingdom of God because you don’t know enough scripture, don’t have enough wisdom, aren’t important enough to be used by God. Don’t let the enemy have victory over your thinking. God has awesome plans to use you and your gifts, and to bless you through it all. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).
God has gone before us and figured it all out. He knew before we ever accepted Him into our hearts what gifts He had given us. He knew what assignment He had placed before us. He also knew we were up to the task, because when He called us to our gift, He equipped us to carry it out.
When we carry out His gifts in our lives, the blessings come. In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered. (2 Chronicles 31:21) Do you want to prosper? Do you want to live a life that brings glory to your Father in Heaven, and showers blessings down upon you?
Let’s be willing participants in God’s plan and purpose for His people. Let’s love one another, encourage, support, and uphold one another. Let’s erase those invisible lines that we have drawn and unite together for the purpose of serving our glorious, merciful Father. As we unwrap our gifts and use them to draw people closer to God, He will reveal their spiritual gifts to them as well. Then we can get the joy of watching them unwrap their gift. What a beautiful blessing that is!
